Icewater Seafoods and Ocean Choice International are voluntarily suspending their Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certificates for cod caught in Southern Newfoundland over concerns about the health of the stock.

The fishery in the 3Ps region first received its certification in 2014, since then, however, researchers say the stock is suffering, according to a report on VOCM.com.

The companies are now working with the Canadian government on a new fishery assessment model for the stock.
