An all out ban on Russian fishing trawlers landing their catch in Norway -- something which has been hotly debated during the summer by politicians -- would ultimately do more harm than good, according to a former director general of Norway's Ministry of Trade and Fisheries.

The country's liberal politicians have been particularly vocal about the situation, accusing the government of helping to feed the oligarchs' wallets and Putin's war chest.

However, "these are opinions without knowledge," former director general of the Ministry of Trade and Fisheries, Johan Williams, told IntraFish sister publication Fiskeribladet.
