Chile's horse mackerel quota for 2020 has been set at 439,000 metric tons, a 15 percent increase on the current year, Chile’s Secretariat of Fisheries and Aquaculture (Subpesca) said.

It follows deliberations by scientists at the South Pacific Regional Management Organisation.

This year, vessels are allowed to catch 381,000 metric tons.

Other countries that harvest horse mackerel in the South Pacific also saw their respective quotas increase by 15 percent.

Total horse mackerel catches in the South Pacific region for next year were set at 680,000 metric tons compared with 591,000 metric tons in 2019, also a 15 percent increase.
