This week Canada’s Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) released its rebuilding plan for the fragile northern cod stock fishery off eastern Newfoundland and Labrador.

That plan is the result of new amendments to Canada’s Fisheries Act, according to The Telegram. By law, the federal fisheries minister has to adopt rebuilding plans for stocks that are deemed to be in the critical zone, which is how northern cod is currently listed.
