The Bristol Bay sockeye salmon harvest as of Monday is just shy of the Alaska Department of Fish and Game's (ADF&G) pre-season forecast of a record 59.9 million fish.

The harvest currently sits at just 59.5 million fish, which is just over 99 percent of the forecast. When final figures are tallied in September, it is likely the catch will exceed the forecast.

The Nushagak River district accounts for the largest percentage of the overall harvest. ADF&G predicted massive returns in the region this year.
