Bristol Bay scientists as well as economic leaders say there will be severe risks to the region's salmon population from a proposed Pebble Mine in southwest Alaska, which is under review by the US Army Corps of Engineers.

Several who spoke during a press conference held in Alaska on Monday outlined the inadequacies of the Army Corps of Engineers' (USACE) environmental impact statement (EIS), which is a major step in the federal permitting process for the contentious project.

Norman Van Vactor, president and CEO of the Bristol Bay Economic Development Corporation (BBEDC), said his agency "has no confidence in the Army Corps' permitting process underway."
