The "real" Brexit negotiations have not even begun yet and it could take years to work out what all the future relationship between the United Kingdom and the European Union will look like, however "uniquely" the UK fishing industry already seems be on the back foot.

Overall, the sector faces perhaps the most daunting challenges as it tries to navigate a post-Brexit world that will alter operations throughout the entire seafood supply chain.

According to Andrew Kuyk, director general of the Provision Trade Federation (PTF), although issues surrounding access to waters and trade are completely different things -- and should therefore be kept quite separate -- there will “inevitably be links and tradeoffs between the two,” he said.
