The Alaska pollock sector is bracing itself for the upcoming A season, and holding out hope for better fishing, continued strength in the block market and a vaccine to protect crews from more costly at-sea outbreaks, according to major Alaska inshore and catcher-processor companies.

With major customers speaking for large volumes of product in advance of harvesting seasons, contracts are in place or firming up for A season by this point in the year, but the swirl of questions has made both buyers and sellers more leery of long-term commitments.
