Scottish researchers and international aquaculture experts, including feed giant BioMar, are developing an oral vaccine that could protect farmed Atlantic salmon from sea lice. The initiative is funded by the Scottish Aquaculture Innovation Centre (SAIC).

The vaccine is expected to be delivered via fish feed through "specially developed feeds that aim to improve fish resistance to parasites using advanced nanoparticle technology."

Innovative bioengineering tools will also target sea lice by triggering strong immune responses in the skin of fish, rather than delivering it through the bloodstream alone.
