Two major policies for managing Commonwealth fisheries in Australia have been revised by the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources (DAWR) and released for public consultation, reports PS News.

"The revised Bycatch Policy seeks to minimize fishing-related impacts on bycatch species to reduce the risk to their long-term sustainability,” said Assistant Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources Anne Ruston.

She said the policies also renewed the government’s commitment to transparency and public accountability in fisheries management with improved monitoring and reporting requirements.

The two draft policies are open for public consultation until June 9.
