Following major opposition from Alaska's seafood industry, the US Army Corps of Engineers has agreed to extend the public comment period by 30 days for the Pebble Mine Project set to be located in Bristol Bay.

The comment period extension was recently requested by Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski and will now end on June 29 instead of at the end of May.

Opponents to what could be the largest mine in North America said, however, the extension is not long enough to encompass all of the issues with the developer's proposal, and the harm it could cause to the Bristol Bay salmon fishery.
