The Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADFG) is predicting the state's 2020 salmon season will haul a total catch of 132.7 million fish, a 36 percent decrease from 2019's record harvest of 206.9 million fish.

The decrease is expected mostly due to a fall in pink salmon, which ADFG predicts at 60.6 million fish, less than half 2019's harvest of 129.1 million fish, although the agency highlights that pink salmon forecasts -- apart from in southeast Alaska -- are based on average returns from previous brood years and are notoriously difficult to make.
