The Alaska Seafood Cooperative has entered the rockfish and mackerel fisheries into assessment for the Alaska Responsible Fisheries Management (RFM) certification.

If approved, the fisheries will receive RFM certification for fish harvested from June of this year onward, the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI) said Tuesday.

Independent and accredited certification body DNV GL will conduct the assessment.

ASMI is progressing on its plan to ultimately offload its RFM sustainable seafood certification program to an independent entity.
