Mowi, the world's largest salmon producer, posted strong sales and profit in the first quarter, helped by a record high salmon prices and limited supply of the popular fish.

The company, with production across Norway, Scotland, Canada, Chile, Ireland and the Faroes, reported a huge 64.5 percent increase in operating earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization to €248.9 million ($262.4 million).

It came on the back of a 7 percent increase in revenue to €1.1 billion ($1.2 billion), despite a 23 percent drop in harvest volumes to 96,600 metric tons gutted weight, in line with guidance.
