The United Kingdom’s largest seafood processor, Young’s Seafood, returned to the black with a vengeance just ahead of its sale to Canadian group Sofina Foods, during a period largely defined by lockdowns across the country.

In the 53-week period to April 3, 2021, Young’s saw profit after tax surge to £21.3 million (€25.5 million/$28.8 million), with sales reaching £597.1 million (€714.6 million/$808.6 million).

In the prior period – though not directly comparable as it covered an extended period of 78 weeks to March 28, 2020 – Young’s posted a loss after tax of £10.1
