UK retail giant Morrisons acquired Cornish-based seafood processor and wholesaler Falfish as part of its strategy to become even more vertically integrated within the seafood sector.

Falfish's operations are complimentary to Morrisons' existing two fish processing facilities in Grimsby, which supplies the retailer's fishmongers with 110 different products, including salmon, cod, haddock and mackerel, among others.

"We have had a long and close relationship with Falfish and these discussions have been going on for some time," a Morrisons spokesperson told IntraFish, describing it as a "fairly natural next step."
