"This comes as a big surprise. I'm quite in shock," Linda Storholm, communications officer at Norwegian land-based salmon farmer Gigante and part owner of parent company Gigante Havbruk, tells IntraFish.
"The basic rent tax may change the competitive conditions between sea and land," said Storholm, although she added Wednesday that she was still unsure as to whether the tax would also apply to land-based production.
She was also reticent to say the tax, if only for the marine sector, would benefit the land-based industry.
