King Oscar, a wholly-owned subsidiary of one of the world's biggest seafood companies, Thai Union Group, has acquired 50 percent of the shares in Aegir Seafood Company, a leading producer of cod liver from Iceland.

The acquisition will strengthen and enhance the cod liver business of King Oscar and Rugen Fisch brands and the company's private-label business, said the company.

Aegir's registered capital is around ISK 134.1 million (€901,000/$934,000).

It is not the first investment King Oscar has made in Aegir; it bought a smaller stake in the company in 2019.

Aegir's cod products are certified sustainable by the Iceland Responsible Fisheries program and the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC).

Norway-based King Oscar has a strong brand heritage of more than 140 years and is one of the leading canned fish suppliers in Norway, the United States, Poland, Belgium, and Australia.

King Oscar was acquired by Thai Union in 2014.
