Progress in negotiations between Canadian seafood giant Cooke and Spanish bank Abanca, which is selling a controlling stake in Spanish fisheries and processing multinational Nueva Pescanova, remains unclear.

Last month, Nueva Pescanova said it expected talks over its acquisition to restart in September after ending for the summer break.

Both Abanca, which owns 97 percent of Nueva Pescanova, and Nueva Pescanova itself declined to comment on whether negotiations have begun again, while there has been no word from Cooke, despite a request for an update by IntraFish.
