Surging demand and improved spot prices stepped up earnings for international salmon giant Mowi in the second quarter.

The group reported operational earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) of €178.2 million ($209.2 million), a 27 percent increase on the second quarter of last year.

Revenues rose 9.8 percent to €1 billion ($1.2 billion) on improving prices and strong demand, thanks to soaring spot prices, which were up 18 percent in Europe and close to 50 percent in the Americas.
