Chilean salmon farmer Salmones Camanchaca on Thursday reported a steep fall in second-quarter earnings, driven by “environmental adversities,” the company said.

Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) was $4.2 million (€3.8 million) during the period, 74.3 percent lower compared with the same quarter a year earlier.

Sales fell 35.8 percent, to $48.2 million (€43.5 million), driven mainly by a decrease in harvests of the company’s own Atlantic salmon.

During the quarter, ex-cage costs were higher because of the presence of algae and lower oxygen levels.
