Canadian integrated seafood giant Cooke Seafood is evaluating the acquisition of one of Spain's leading shrimp processors, alimarket.es reports.

Cooke already controls Spanish bass and bream producer Culmarex, but is now looking to expand into shrimp processing in the country by buying an operation with its own processing facilities, according to the report.

"We do not offer comment on rumored acquisitions or speculative business dealings," a Cooke spokesperson told IntraFish.

Talks between the highly acquisitive Cooke and Ocean Beauty Seafoods recently heated up again, with discussions centering around the merger of some or all of Icicle Seafoods' and Ocean Beauty's operations, sources told IntraFish last week.
