Shares in merger candidate Norway Royal Salmon rose 1.5 percent during Wednesday's trading after the salmon producer confirmed it is in merger talks with Norsk Havbruk.

The stock edged slightly higher on the opening bell in Oslo and was trading up 1.5 percent at NOK232.4 (€21.49/$25.28) during afternoon trading on Wednesday.

Speculation about the salmon merger was sparked after aquaculture services group NTS, whose majority shareholder is multi-millionaire Helge Gaso, announced recently that it is considering separating out its wellboat and aquaculture services division.
