In Oygarden outside Bergen in western Norway, Salmo Terra has been working for a long time to build a land-based salmon farm. The company had permits for production of 8,000 metric tons per year, a volume that would have made it one of Norway's biggest recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) farms.
But last week the company declared bankruptcy, according to a notice on the Norwegian Companies Register.
"It is a difficult time now," Salmo Terra founder and CEO Harald Schreiner Fiskdal told local newspaper Bergens Tidende.
