The future of the world's largest salmon farmer's operations in Canada look dim as a decision nears on whether a critical farming region in British Columbia will be closed.
Canada Fisheries Minister Joyce Murray is just weeks away from deciding the fate of the remaining 79 federal salmon farm site licenses in British Columbia, with tenures scheduled to expire on June 30.
Thirty five, or 44 percent, of those licenses belong to Mowi, according to the company.
Production in Canada represented around nine percent of Mowi's nearly 97,000-metric-ton Q1 harvest, according to the company's first quarter earnings, with most of the product coming from British Columbia.
