Spurred by a growing demand for seafood internationally and a flatlining wild fisheries sector, the CEO of the world’s largest seafood company is poised to deploy hundreds of millions of dollars into the aquaculture and value-added seafood segment in the coming years.

Speaking exclusively to IntraFish from the company’s headquarters in Tokyo, Shigeru Ito, president and CEO of Maruha Nichiro, said there is a gap to be filled in the seafood industry that can only be filled through investing in aquaculture and maximizing the value out of products.
