UK salmon smoker MacKnight Limited saw its profit drop in 2016 primarily as a result of high salmon prices and currency movements following the Brexit vote.

Operating profit came in at £298,000 (€333,942/$392,153) during the year, down 30 percent from £426,000 (€477,380/$560,595) the year before, and profit before tax was £197,000 (€220,760/$259,242), down 19 percent from £243,000 (€272,308/$319,776) in 2015.

Nevertheless, the company said the year was “successful” considering the “challenging conditions of historically high salmon raw material prices and currency movements following the Brexit vote."
