Investors were shaken by Oslo-listed land-based salmon farmer Atlantic Sapphire's mortality incident on Tuesday, sending the company's share price down by over 9 percent as markets opened on Wednesday.

A "weakness" in Atlantic Sapphire's recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) caused the loss of 500 metric tons of fish at the company's Miami, US land-based salmon farm.

The 500 metric tons of head-on gutted fish expected to be lost is equivalent to around 5 percent of the company's annualized Phase 1 harvest, with an average weight of approximately 1 kilogram.
