Second quarter earnings at salmon farming giant Mowi's Chile operations were more than halved due to sharply lower salmon prices as COVID-19 shrank demand and sent costs rising.

Operational earnings before interest and taxes came in at €11.7 million ($13.9 million), down 59 percent on a year earlier.

Mowi Chile's main markets in the United States and Brazil suffered from a collapse in foodservice business in the second quarter as consumers stayed home under lockdown restrictions, although in the United States in particular delivery and take-out services are at least partially helping to restore market share.
