Icelandic salmon farmer Arnarlax raised its harvest expectations 20 percent to 12,000 metric tons for 2020, despite increased mortalities at its Arnarfjordur site earlier this year.

To mitigate the risk of the same thing happening again, the company will harvest prior to the pre-Christmas period, CEO Bjorn Hembre told IntraFish.

In February, the National Food Administration confirmed up to 470 metric tons of salmon mortalities at Arnarlax due to fierce storms, five times more than its earlier estimate.

At the time of the incident, the SalMar-owned company had harvested its 2017 generation of fish and had begun harvesting the 2018 generation.
