JoyvioAgri, the protein arm of Chinese conglomerate Legend Holdings, acquired Qingdao-based China Starfish earlier this year, expanding its seafood footprint into coldwater shrimp.

China Starfish is, according to official customs data, the largest coldwater shrimp importer and distributor in China, also selling more than 30 wild-caught species, including pollock, Argentinian red shrimp, red fish, toothfish and plaice.

There is room for growth in China’s burgeoning coldwater shrimp market, according to Sun Liang Jie, general manager at Haimai Seafood, a subsidiary of processing giant China Starfish, who IntraFish spoke with at the China Fisheries and Seafood show Wednesday.
