In the the end, the lure of France's biggest scallop fleet belonging to Favrou and wider access to the frozen market proved too attractive for 50-50 joint-venture partners Freshpack and Le Garrec.

French processor Freshpack and fishing company Le Garrec, both based in Boulogne-sur-Mer, unveiled their move for Favrou last week.

Favrou, along with its 14 scallop harvesting vessels, will continue to be run as an independent business in the northern port of Dieppe.

Le Garrec will supply its expertise honed over four generations in fisheries, packing and logistics.
