Maruha Nichiro, the world's largest seafood group, saw profits crumble in its fiscal year ending March 2020. The company's financial health was dragged down by COVID-19 impacts and the performance of overseas operations.

The group's total operating income plummeted 4.7 percent against the year prior to JPY 17.1 billion (€138 million/$157 million).

The poor performance of US-based subsidiary Peter Pan Seafoods had a significant impact on Maruha Nichiro's North America results.
