Chilean fishing and aquaculture firm Blumar reported improved earnings in the first quarter of the year, mainly due to strong pricing for Atlantic salmon.

Between January and March, the company reported earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) of $23.2 million (€20.9 million), compared with losses of $65,000 (€58,340) reported a year earlier.

Although originally the company reported an EBITDA of $1.3 million in the first quarter of 2016, later amendments to the results included losses of $1.42 million in one of its centers due to mortalities from the algal bloom, which led to the 65,000 (€58,340) loss for that quarter.
