AquaChile on Friday announced it reached a deal to acquire Acuimag Aquaculture Services and Pesquera Eden, giving the group a major foothold in the Magallanes region of Chile.

The deal, for $255 million (€218.5 million), includes all fresh and seawater sites, a recirculating aquaculture operation and a processing plant in Puerto Natales.

In 2017, the operations combined produced 22,900 metric tons of Atlantic salmon, and AquaChile estimates that could be increased to 40,000 metric tons in the mid-term.

The acquisition is a "big step" for the company, AquaChile General Manager Agustin Ugalde said, allowing it to enter Magallanes "with the appropriate scale."
