US-based GM salmon farmer AquaBounty Technologies, a majority-owned subsidiary of Intrexon Corporation, widened its net loss in 2017 to $9.3 million (€7.6 million) compared with the loss of $8.5 million (€6.9 million) in 2016, although it also made its first sales during the year.

In 2017, the company sold 4.5 metric tons of its AquAdvantage Salmon fillets to Canada and also established first commercial-scale production facility in the United States through the purchase of certain assets of the Bell Fish Company LLC farm site in Albany, Indiana.
