Investors were kind to GM salmon pioneer AquaBounty Technologies in the hours immediately following its announcement on Friday that the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) was lifting a 2016 import alert that prevented AquaBounty's AquAdvantage genetically engineered salmon and salmon eggs from entering the United States.

The challenge now shifts from navigating regulations to making agreements with buyers.

The FDA ruling means the company can now import AquAdvantage eggs and grow them out in its land-based salmon farm in Indiana.
