Significant increases in energy and shipping costs, combined with a notable weakening in demand, pushed UK shrimp processor, wholesaler and trader Seamark into the red in 2022.

The Manchester-based company posted an operating loss of £978,246 (€1.1 million/$1.2 million) for the year, compared with a profit of £369,073 (€427,479/$467,560) in 2021.

Sales fell 16 percent to £25.6 million (€29.7 million/$32.4 million) and the gross margin was 12.3 percent, compared with 13.5 percent in 2021.

The company said it regarded the result as a reasonable performance given the extremely challenging conditions presented during the year.
