Earlier this month, the European Union backed a proposal for a law that would ban the sale of agriculture products linked to deforestation, including soy -- a key ingredient in many aquaculture feed formulas.

Once approved, the law would force companies to assure that their products are deforestation-free.

Aquaculture feed companies would have to verify that no agricultural goods sold in the EU have been made on deforested or degraded land anywhere in the world.

BioMar Global Sourcing Director Morten Holdorff Mojbaek said his group welcomed the proposal.
