As the key second season of Peru's north-central anchovy fishery comes to a close, fishmeal stocks have seen a welcome rebound, but fish oil inventories still have a long way to go before reaching pre-2023 levels.

The shortfall in fishmeal and fish oil inventories resulted from the cancellation of the first season in 2023 and a sharply reduced quota for the second, leading to an acute shortage of of these raw materials in global markets.

With a harvest quota for the second half of the year surpassing the historical average, this has clearly been a successful season, Enrico Bachis, market research director at The Marine Ingredients Organisation (IFFO), told IntraFish.
