Danish feed giant BioMar reported a hefty increase in revenue and earnings in the third quarter, but saw sales volumes decline as salmon customers in Chile and UK struggled with regulatory and biological challenges.

Sales volume declined 2 percent to 444,000 metric tons compared to the same period last year -- one of the disappointing outcomes in an otherwise positive quarter, BioMar CEO Carlos Diaz said Tuesday.

New regulations in Chile and biological challenges in the UK resulted in some of BioMar's customers reducing their feed purchases, leading to lower sales, Diaz said.
