Danish feed ingredients company Hamlet Protein is looking to grow its footprint in the aquaculture sector, and is seeking a sector-specific strategy -- even as its private equity parents reportedly look for a new owner.

The company, which focuses on soy-protein-based specialty ingredients for early life stages, has historically concentrated on swine, ruminants and poultry, but CEO Erik Visser sees opportunity by delving further into aquaculture.

"We are dipping our toes into the sector," Visser told IntraFish.

Visser, who was appointed CEO in 2019, said in the early days the company does not want to cast its net too wide, and it is currently assessing where it can make the best difference in the aquaculture sector.
