Norway-based krill harvester and processor Aker Biomarine has opened a new factory where it will produce protein made from residual raw materials from krill.

The company has invested NOK 300 million (€26 million/$28 million) in the project, which is the first of its kind, according to Aker Biomarine's press release.

Located in Ski in southern Norway, the factory officially opened on Sept. 6.

"With this project, we are facilitating the use of new biomasses which will be important in order to cover the future needs for new protein sources," Aker BioMarine Innovation Project Lead Christine Stromhylden Lunder said.
