Founded in 1956, Vigo-based holding Pescapuerta has a relevant international presence. It is a trader of frozen seafood with presence in more than 70 countries around the world.

The group’s main activity is the distribution of fish, shellfish and cephalopods, through partnerships with logistic operators.

The firm formerly owned a large fleet and a number of processing plants, also outside of Spain, however, it decided to shift its strategy to focus on trading.

Pescapuerta's subsidiaries are Elmar, Loligo Seafood, Fortitude Fishing and Pescapuerta Trade.

The elmar brand, present in Spain for over 30 years and acquired by Pescapuerta in 2009, covers a range of fish, shellfish and cephalopod products, as well as other mixtures and value-added meals. It distributes the product to the Spanish foodservice, catering and retail market.

Loligo Seafood specializes in cephalopods, mainly giant and ilex squid. It operates five fishing vessels in the Falkland Islands.

Fortitude Fishing is wild fish supplier sourcing in Namibia. It holds distribution agreements with the main producers in the country of origin, which enables the company to permanently supply product of the same quality. Its main activity is the distribution of Cape hake.

Pescapuerta Trade was created in 2017 as a distribution arm aimed at supplying products of different origins under the same brand.

The company is also a shareholder in logistics platform Frioya, which serves as a base for all operations not carried out directly at the source of the product where Pescapuerta's joint enterprises are located.

Pescapuerta sold 67,000 metric tons of products in 2017, of which 67 percent was fish, 25 percent was shellfish, and the rest value-added production.
