Grupo Nueva Pescanova was incorporated in 2015 as the result of a restructuring plan carried out by seven creditor banks through the acquisition of 80 percent of Spanish multinational Pescanova S.A., which was founded in 1960 and filed for bankruptcy in 2013.

This transaction left the remainder of the company in the hands of the shareholders of Pescanova S.A., who became minority shareholders of Nueva Pescanova.

The group’s main activities are the production, harvesting processing, distribution, trading and development of products destined for direct and indirect human consumption.

Nueva Pescanova employs 11,000 people across four continents, has a fleet of 72 fishing vessels, 7,500 hectares of fish farming, 16 processing plants distributed over nine countries in Africa, Latin America and Europe, and is present with operations in 27 countries.

Its main species include hake in the fishing segment, and turbot, warmwater shrimp and tilapia in its farming operations, which have the capacity to produce 50,000 metric tons annually.

The company is currently in the process of building its Pescanova BioMarine Center in O Grove, Spain, which will focus on aquaculture research, development and innovation. The center will span across 4,000 square meters and is set to open in 2019.

The group, with base in Pontevedra, Spain, is the country's biggest seafood firm. In 2017, it reported earnings before, interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) of €80 million ($92.8 million) on a turnover of €1.08 billion ($1.3 billion), and a net profit of €300,000 ($348,096), breaking even for the first time since its incorporation.

In 2016, the company implemented its 2016-2020 Strategic Plan, which besides investments, includes a four-fold increase in EBITDA to €189 million ($219.3 million) through 2020.

In 2017, Nueva Pescanova announced a €42.5 million ($49.3 million) investment for the construction of new vessels for Namibia and Mozambique until 2020. During the year, the company also offloaded its Honduras business and announced it would sell other operations that don't go in line with the group's strategy.

In July 2018, the group acquired South African importer Unick Fish, which has annual sales of €10 million ($11.6 million).
