A bumper sticker caught my eye on my commute into work this week: “No farms = no beer.”

Bumper stickers are a uniquely American obsession. From politics to humor to blunt driving advice, bumper stickers are right at the top of the America scale alongside apple pie, baseball and corn cannons (yes, they are a thing, as are potato guns).

But there’s a lesson in a bumper sticker: keep it simple. The current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue is an absolute master of the pithy slogan.
