Spanish bass, bream producer ventures abroad as domestic demand slacks off
With lower-than-usual demand in the Spanish market, bass and bream producer Culmarex is looking to new markets abroad, one spokesperson at the company told IntraFish.
The economic crisis and higher unemployment rates are still weighing heavily on Spanish consumers and “cheaper products” are the preferred choice.
“Our goal is to increase our stake abroad,” she said. Key markets will include Portugal, France, Italy and the United Kingdom.
However, passing on premium prices in markets used to lower Greek and Turkish prices, could become a challenge, the spokesperson said.
“Competition from Greece and Turkey is strong but I think we can live together,” she said.
