Three years into its plan to build a 30,000 metric-ton closed-containment farm in Maine, American Aquafarms is now starting over.

That's the result of a move earlier this week by the company to drop its appeal against the Maine's Department of Marine Resources (DMR), which terminated the company's application for developing the project.

"We filed that appeal to buy us time to figure out our options," Thomas Brennan, director of project development at American Aquafarms, told IntraFish. "At the end of the day, it’s more productive to be in a conversation rather than in conflict."
