On Wednesday Washington state's Department of Ecology held its first public hearing via a virtual webinar on Cooke Aquaculture's draft water quality permits for the company's four remaining Washington state net pen salmon farms near.

The state's Department of Ecology is taking public comments through February to closely review those permits before they can be renewed. Cooke is the only company farming Atlantic salmon in Washington state.

The hearings were for water permits for Cooke's Clam Bay, Fort Ward, Orchard Rocks and Hope Island sites.
