The Netherlands-based alternative feed ingredients company Veramaris on Wednesday opened its $200 million (€178.3 million), omega-3 enriched marine algal oil facility in Nebraska, two years after it announced the initial plan to commercialize its product.

The company will now ramp up production at the new zero-waste factory based in Blair, Nebraska, which was completed ahead of schedule in May.

Veramaris's total production capacity will now equal 1.2 million metric tons of wild-caught fish, about 15 percent of the entire salmon industry's need for marine oils, the company said.
